Local Roundup: SC’s Locke places 78th in 200 butterfly at Olympic trials

Santa Cruz’s Elise Locke finished 78th during preliminary heats of the 200-meter butterfly at the U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb., on Wednesday.

Locke, a junior at Wa. State and an alumna of Presentation in San Jose, recorded a time of two mins. 17.84 seconds. She finished 9.55 seconds off first-place finisher Cammile Adams .

Only the top sixteen advance to semifinals.

Locke qualified for the trials after posting a 2:14.86 in the two hundred fly at the Arena Pro Swim Series in Santa Clara.

Thu La Selva’s Andrew Porter will compete in preliminary heats for the 200-meter individual medley.
