Sales tax extension goes to voters

The Capitola City Council voted Thu to place a measure on the Nov. eight ballot to extend the sunset date by ten years for an existing quarter-cent sales tax. To pass, the measure will require approval a simple majority of voters, fifty percent plus one.

The measure is projected to generate $1 mill. annually. The council plans to use the money to protect the wharf and beach from storms and rising sea levels, maintain full staffing for the Police Department and improve parks, sidewalks and bike lanes.

For info call the City Clerk’s Office at 831-475-7300.
